Brownsville Miami-Dade

Brownsville (also known as Brown Sub) is a census-designated place and unincorporated community in metropolitan Miami, Florida. It has a total area of 2.3 square miles (6.0 km2), all of it without area of water. NW 62nd Street forms a border to the north, Florida State Road 112 to the south, NW 27th Avenue to the west and NW 19th Avenue to the east.


Brownsville sits on the intersection of NW 27th Avenue and NW 54th Street right at the center which effectively bisects the community into 4 parts. It is bordered by Gladeview to the north, Liberty Square, Model City to the east, Allapattah to the southeast, Grapeland Heights to the south, and Miami Springs to the west. Interstate 195 from I-95 Expressway just to the east of the community turns to Florida State Road 112 and leads to Miami International Airport to the southeast just outside of Brownsville.


Brownsville is primarily a commercial area crowded with businesses, school and parks. It is also home to The Historic Hampton House, a notable historical museum located in NW 27th Avenue. Parks all around the community include Olinda Park, Marva Y. Bannerman Park, Jefferson Reaves Sr. Park, Evergreen Memorial Park. and Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Schools serving the area are Lorah Park Elementary School, Kelsey L. Pharr Elementary School, Olinda Elementary School, Charles Drew Elementary School, Brownsville Middle School,


Miami Springs Middle School, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Miami Jackson Senior High School, and Miami Springs Senior High School. Model City Library serves Brownsville as well.


Brownsville is served by Miami-Dade Transit along major thoroughfares via Metrobus, and by the Miami Metrorail, Tri-Rail, and Amtrak at Brownsville (North 54th Street and West 27th Avenue), Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza (North 62nd Street and West 27th Avenue), Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer (North 79th Street and West 37th Avenue), Hialeah Market (North 41st Street and NW 38th Avenue) and Amtrak-Miami: Silver Star and Silver Meteor service, (North 79th Street and West 37th Avenue).
