Mizner Bark Dog Park-Boca Raton

If you are scratching your head looking for a new, outdoor activity to keep you and the family entertained, look no further than Mizner Bark Dog Park. This dog park, which is also called Mizner Bark, takes cuteness to a whole new level. This park has a rich history, dating back to when it was founded in 2004. The history of the park is a unique one. It started with a group of local dog owners who wanted to create a safe place where their four-legged friends could play and socialize. They organized fundraisers and donations, which allowed them to purchase land at Boca Raton Municipal Airport that had been decommissioned. This became the site of Mizner Bark Dog Park, which was named after Addison Mizner, an architect who designed many homes in Boca Raton in the 1920s. His contribution to the community made such a big impact that the group decided to honor him by naming the park after him.

In the early days, Mizner Bark Dog Park was an open park with no fencing or amenities. As the city of Boca Raton grew, so did Mizner Bark Dog Park. In 2009, the park was officially recognized by the Boca Raton City Council and began to receive funding for improvements. Located off of North Military Trail, just south of Spanish River Blvd., on Banyan Trail, Mizner Bark Dog Park is a spacious, grassy place to let dogs roam free and get some of that pent-up energy out. However, this park isn’t just good for the pups.

With paved sidewalks throughout the fenced-in enclosures, it also serves as an exciting, entertaining space to walk around and get some exercise while your furballs run and play. It’s not just the dogs who benefit from the dog park. Dog owners have the opportunity to recreate with their fur babies, and for many, that involves getting outside in the fresh air and engaging in some physical activity.

When visiting Mizner Bark Dog Park, pet owners are asked to abide by all safety rules set in place by the City of Boca Raton. Today, visitors can enjoy three separate gated areas for large dogs over 50 lbs, medium dogs 20 – 50 lbs, and small dogs under 20 lbs. with no size restriction so that owners with different breeds don’t need to separate their pets into different enclosures. Though off-leash time is the focus of the play areas, owners must make certain to keep ready access to a leash in case it is needed. In areas other than designated off-leash zones, dogs are required to remain on a lead. It also has benches, shady trees, and a shaded picnic pavilion. There’s even a water fountain with both human-height and dog-height spouts so everyone can stay hydrated. The paved walkways make it easy to push strollers, wheelchairs, or scooters throughout the park as well.

Also housed in the enclosures are water, dog wash stations, and poop bags. Each day, multiple times a day, the park is serviced, trash is emptied, debris is cleaned up, dog bag stations are refilled, and holes are filled all making this experience an extremely clean and enjoyable one. In addition, only environmentally safe and organic herbicides and insecticides are applied to the site. These pesticides are safe for people, pets, and the environment. This reminds serves as a comforting reminder that your dog will be safe during the visit. This picturesque doggy play haven is a non-smoking facility, and violators will be punished with a fine. In accordance with Florida state legislation, dogs must possess a current rabies vaccination and a city dog license. When traveling to and from the enclosures, it is also mandatory for dogs to remain on a leash.

Mizner Bark Dog Park is a public facility, however, a parking permit must be purchased to obtain entrance to the grounds. The parking pass can be obtained free of charge for Boca Raton residents after they show proof of residency and vehicle ownership. Those who are not residents can purchase passes for $26 per month or $268 per year. It is valid from October 1st through September 30th every year. The parking can be accessed through the South entrance located off of North Military Trail.

Furthermore, this park also hosts events and classes year-round, providing the perfect opportunity to get the entire family out of the house and engage in activities while interacting with other pet owners. Classes such as obedience, agility, rally, and flyball are designed to create a stronger bond between pet and owner is being offered. As for the events, they often include fun contests and activities such as the Wag & Walk event, a costume contest, or a win-a-treat event. During Halloween, the event is centered around the Howl-o-ween event, complete with costume contests and trick-or-treating for the dogs. In the summer, the event takes on a beach vibe with the Surf & Turf event.

Lastly, every year since 2019, the park has held an annual Doggy Dash for charity. The event is a 5K walk and runs that raises money for local animal rescue organizations.

Visiting the park, you can get some benefits. These benefits include a chance to be active with your pet, an opportunity to meet other pet owners and their pups, make new friends, relax in the outdoor space and reduce stress. For pet owners, it’s a great way to bond with their furry friends and make sure they get the exercise and socialization they need.
