ZooTampa at Lowry Park

The establishment that was once known as the Tampa Zoo at Lowry Park has had its name changed to the ZooTampa at Lowry Park. This change is only a minor one. More than 2,000 creatures can be seen here in their natural habitats. These animals come from all over the world, including Africa, Asia, and Australia. In addition, there are native Florida habitats, a primate area, and an aviary.

In addition, there is a sizable aquarium as well as three pools that are utilized in the process of providing medical attention to local manatees that have been hurt or are ill. You’ll have the opportunity to get up and personal with some of the zoo’s inhabitants, including “backstage” encounters with penguins and tortoises and the possibility of feeding an Indian rhino.

Animals such as African elephants, African penguins, Florida panthers, and Bornean orangutans are among the most well-known inhabitants of the zoo. The amusement park also features a number of rides, such as a miniature train ride, a safari trip through the African habitat, and a roller coaster that is suitable for families. Both locals and tourists enjoy attending the numerous special events and programs that are held throughout the year at the zoo, which is one of the most visited attractions in the area.

The Lowry Park Zoological Garden is a nonprofit zoo that spans 63 acres. In 2009, Parents Magazine named Lowry Park Zoo the most family-friendly zoo in the United States, and the state of Florida recognizes it as the center for the conservation of Florida’s wildlife and biodiversity. The Lowry Park Zoological Society, which is its own separate nonprofit organization, is the one in charge of running the zoo.

The zoo serves not just the local community but also people from all over the world as a center for the preservation of endangered animal species. The Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Florida, is a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG), the Florida Association of Zoos and Aquariums (FAZA), and the Florida Attractions Association. Additionally, the Lowry Park Zoo holds accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) (FAA).

Beginning in the 1930s, a small animal display could be found on the campus of the University of Tampa, which is located in the downtown area of Tampa. This was the beginning of what would later become ZooTampa. It was renamed the Lowry Park Zoo after it relocated to its current location in the Seminole Heights area in 1957 and became renowned as such. In the years that followed, a number of other amusement rides and other attractions were constructed there. The animal enclosures had fallen into disrepair and were considered unsanitary by the time the 1980s rolled around. As a result, the zoo underwent an extensive makeover and was rebuilt from the ground up in 1987 and 1988. Since it reopened, a number of new areas and attractions have been included, the most of which have a geographical focus.
